Prairie Rose Special Care Unit The Prairie Rose, a 10-bed special care unit, opened in 1993 to provide specialized care for residents with Alzheimer's Disease, dementia and other related illness. It is located by the hospital at NDHC. Staff of the Prairie Rose has the experience and training necessary to provide loving, professional care for those struggling with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. Atmosphere is so important when looking for the right place to live for an Alzheimer's patient. The Prairie Rose is a secured unit which allows residents to have the freedom to wander in a quiet, home-like setting.
Admission Criteria
Decision for admission is made by the multidisciplinary team after consultation and approval by NDHC medical director and the resident's family. Residents will be discharged to another area in the nursing home when they no longer meet the above criteria. The cost of nursing home/special care unit care is determined on an individual basis, dependent upon the needs and services provided to the resident. An assessment to determine the resident's needs is completed by day 14.
