NDHC HOSTS JOB SHADOW DAY FOR NORTHWOOD 9TH GRADE
February 2, 2005

Northwood Deaconess Health Center hosted
a Job Shadow
Day 2005 for the Northwood High
School 9th Grade Class on
Wednesday, February 2.
Prior to the event, Chad Peterson, NDHC Human
Resources
Director, and Nancy Condit, Northwood
High School counselor, met with the
students in their
classroom to prepare them for the event. Condit gave
some
tips for completing a meaningful resume, while
Peterson discussed the job
application process and
what potential employers looked for while conducting
interviews.
On Wednesday, the day of the event, the students were given an opportunity to use these skills.
Students applied for specific jobs, submitted resumes, and were interviewed by NDHC Department managers and other business leaders from the community.
The new applicants were evaluated by their potential employer and were given feedback on how they did.
After the students were “hired”, they were taken to their new workplace, where they spent an hour getting to know the specifics of their job and learned more about the business.
Some of the students were interested in health care careers and spent time learning more about jobs in nursing, physical therapy, and x-ray. There were also a few potential doctors.
Other students were interested in other vocations and got to spend time with other Northwood businesses.
Businesses that participated in the event include AGVISE, Krabbenhoft Chevrolet, Alerus Financial, Generations Learning Center, the Northwood Gleaner, Bilden Pharmacy, ADM, and many more.
Job Shadow Day 2005 was a very successful event and showed the students first-hand that businesses in Northwood care about their future and want them to succeed when they graduate and move to their next step in life after graduation – hopefully working and living in Northwood!
