For Your Health

The NFL Play60 is a fast growing movement to encourage kids to play for 60 minutes every day to tackle childhood obesity.  This program extends the NFL's commitment to making the next generation more active and healthy.  They teamed up with the National Dairy Council to launch this initiative and pair the benefits of  healthy eating with being more active.  Today nearly 1 in 3 kids/teens are overweight and inactive.  We know that inactive kids become inactive adults.  We also know that physical activity produces overall physical, psychological and social benefits and that healthy habits can last a lifetime.  Physical activity can be achieved through the combined effort of in-school programs and at-home activities.  Here are some things you can do join the movement.  Getting physically active until you're breathing hard or sweating is a good guide.  This can have many positive effects on your body.  Then get a drink of water.  Encouraging active play outside can mean raking the leaves into a pile then jumping in, or going to the local pool, playing catch or riding bike.  Active play indoors can mean playing Wii -dance using a hip-hop style, or playing catch with a Nerf football.  You don't need to get 60 minutes in all at once.   Mix it up...try lots of different activities to keep your kids interest.  And lastly, increasing your own physical activity can model lifestyle choices for your kids. NDHC has posted links on their website to help you find resources and ideas to help get your kids moving.
